Choosing cushion beds
What is a cushion bed?
A cushion bed (also called a poshish bed or "bed design cushion wala") is a bed whose headboard, and sometimes side rails and footboard, are padded with foam and covered in fabric. It feels softer to lean against when you read or watch TV in bed, and it brings colour and texture into the room.
What you cannot see is what decides how long it lasts. Under the fabric, every cushion bed we make has a solid wood frame, usually Sheesham or Kail, joined and screwed, not stapled chipboard. The slats that carry the mattress are solid wood too.
Headboard styles
- Button tufted: deep buttons in a diamond pattern, a classic formal look.
- Channel tufted: vertical padded channels, modern and clean.
- Panel with piping: a flat padded panel with a neat edge, simple and easy to clean.
- Wingback: side wings that wrap around the pillows.
- Wood and cushion: a solid wood frame around a padded centre panel ("cushion bed design with wood"), so you get the warmth of wood with a soft place to lean.

Sizes
Cushion beds are made in all standard sizes: single, double and queen, and king. Because the padded headboard is thicker than a wooden one, allow a few extra inches of room length.
Cleaning a poshish headboard
Vacuum with a soft brush every week or two. Blot spills straight away with a clean cloth; do not rub. For marks, use a little mild soap in water on a cloth, test on a hidden spot first, and never soak the fabric. Keep the headboard out of strong afternoon sun to slow fading.
Frame guarantee
When the frame is solid Sheesham, the wood is covered by our 50-year Sheesham wood guarantee. The fabric and foam can be replaced later without replacing the bed.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cushion (poshish) bed?
It is a bed with a padded headboard, and sometimes padded side rails and footboard, covered in fabric such as velvet, suede-style microfibre or leatherette. It is softer to lean on than a wooden headboard. Poshish is the Urdu word for upholstery, so a poshish bed and a cushion bed are the same thing.
Is the frame of a cushion bed solid wood?
In our cushion beds, yes. The frame and the slats under the mattress are solid wood, usually Sheesham or Kail, with foam and fabric fitted over the headboard. Many low-cost cushion beds use chipboard under the fabric, so always ask a seller what the frame is made of.
Which fabric is best for a cushion bed: velvet, suede or leatherette?
Velvet looks richest but shows marks. Suede-style microfibre is soft and hides small stains well. Leatherette wipes clean easily, which suits children's rooms, but it can crack after many years in heat. For daily use, a mid-to-dark shade of microfibre is the most forgiving.
How do I clean a cushion bed headboard?
Vacuum it with a soft brush attachment every week or two. Blot spills at once without rubbing. For marks, wipe gently with a cloth dampened in mild soapy water after testing on a hidden area, and let it air dry. Never soak the fabric or use bleach.
Can I choose my own fabric colour?
Yes. Every cushion bed is made to order, so you choose the fabric type and colour. See swatches at our Golra Road showroom or ask for daylight photos on WhatsApp. You can also supply your own fabric; we will tell you how many metres the design needs.
