Choosing lighting
Layer the light
A room lit only by a ceiling light feels flat. Add a floor lamp beside the sofa for reading, a table lamp on each side table in the bedroom, and keep the ceiling light for cleaning and guests. Warm white bulbs (around 2700K to 3000K) bring out the colour of Sheesham and walnut; cool white can make wood look grey.
Placing a floor lamp
Stand the lamp just behind and to one side of the chair or sofa arm, so the light falls over your shoulder onto the page. The bottom of the shade should sit around eye level when you are seated, so the bulb is not in your eyes.
Placing table lamps
On a bedside table, the bottom of the shade at about chin height when you sit up in bed works well. Pairs of matching lamps on matching side tables give a bedroom a calm, balanced look.
